RIVER NORTH LIVING ROOM REFRESH
2025

The Brief
We wanted a space that felt cozy and intimate, but still bright and airy during the day. This required us to navigate a few challenges:
A trapezoid-shaped layout: The unique angles of the room and oversized furniture required a creative approach to arrangement and flow.
Blending styles: We wanted a mix of modern, contemporary, and vintage pieces to create an eclectic feel.
Hidden storage: We needed space to store blankets, books, gaming devices, and other home items.
The Reveal
We drenched this trapezoidal space in a deep navy, extending the color into the entry "tunnel" for a high-drama arrival. To anchor the room’s unique footprint, we paired a massive burl wood coffee table with a low-profile bouclé sofa that frames the Chicago skyline. A marble dining area and layered cowhide rug define the zones, proving you can have a structured layout even in a room full of architectural quirks.
We balanced a 48-inch mirror and a multi-height cactus lamp with a see-through credenza that displays the homeowners' curated treasures—from drag history books to local Chicago-designed jeweled dog collars. By leaning into the challenges of the space rather than fighting them, we created a home that feels both intentional and personal.
