Avondale Bathroom Remodel
2025

The Brief
A stylish Chicago couple living in Avondale wanted to update the main floor of their home and start with renovating their small guest bathroom. The ask: Make it fun, make it bold, and girl…ditch the tub. We needed to transform a cramped guest bathroom into a vibey, guest-worthy moment with equal parts statement and function. It needed rich color, vintage flair, and a “wow” element.
There were a few constraints to design around:
Small space: Small and minimal square footage to work with.
Full bath: It needed a full shower and sink.
Storage: Not a priority, but needed to keep things clean and low-maintenance.
Other: The back of the new kitchen refrigerator takes up additional square footage.
The Reveal
We honored this home’s 1940s roots by wrapping the bathroom in floor-to-ceiling emerald green vertical subway tiles. To balance the drama, we added a cheeky modern twist: taupe wallpaper featuring "monkeys behaving badly." This playful contrast anchors the room’s personality, while an antique light fixture above a space-saving white sink nods to the original decade’s nostalgia.
Function meets flair with an accordion-style glass shower door and sleek black hardware that keeps the layout efficient. A black-and-white mosaic floor tile adds a graphic punch and works alongside the bold walls.
Customer Review
ByMCK turned our tired bathroom into a fun and unexpected space that we love to be in. We’re obsessed with the eccentric wallpaper and emerald tile. Mat and Clay took time to listen to what we wanted from the new space. They’re very approachable, friendly, and a joy to work with.
